Lee Brand, a former Lochgelly High pupil who has risen through an apprenticeship at Fife Fabrications (FiFab), has scooped the top prize in the Edge Practical Learner Award 2007, which recognises young people who have succeeded by learning on the job.
The prize comes with a grant of £2,000 for FiFab to invest in future training plans for 22-year old Lee. He is now competing against other regional winners for the chance to win the national Edge Practical Learner Award, and a grant of £10,000.
Lee is just one of many local men and women to benefit from Fife Fabrication’s dedication to supporting local talent.
Judges were impressed by the way Lee has grasped every opportunity to learn the trade and his commitment to helping others benefit from his success.
Lee will travel to a glittering awards ceremony in London in November to collect the award: “I’m delighted to be recognised in the Edge Awards.
“But it’s thanks to the management at FiFab I’ve done so well. Ever since I joined the company they’ve encouraged my interest and given me all the support I need to learn and develop.
“My aim now is to inspire other young apprentices as they start their career in the company.”
The Edge Awards are funded by Edge, an independent educational foundation which discovers and rewards employers and employees that offer and benefit from quality hands-on, practical learning opportunities.
