Construction companies have only a short time left to enter the Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) Awards for Environmental Excellence, which will recognise and reward companies that have introduced successful measures to reduce their environmental impact.
This is the first time that the CIWM has held awards dedicated to recognising environmental excellence across a range of industries, including construction, retail and manufacturing. The event, taking place on 31 October at the Dorchester Hotel, London, is being hosted by BBC news presenter Sophie Raworth. The judges include Dr Owen Jenkins of CIRIA, Trevor Hay from the British Safety Executive and Simon Chapman, chief economist of the British Freight Transport Association.
Steve Lee, Chief Executive of the CIWM, said: "There are a number of awards within the construction category that recognise companies that have introduced successful measures to reduce their impact on the environment. The construction industry is working hard to reduce waste, improve sustainability and promote health and safety best practice and it is important to recognise these changes and the positive steps these companies are taking."
A range of construction companies are being encouraged to enter the awards. Entrants can demonstrate excellence in the use of sustainable materials and products in construction; site waste minimisation and recycling during construction and demolition; health and safety best practice; and plant and equipment management.
