Scottish Enterprise Glasgow is part funding a new graduate diploma in engineering in a bid to increase high level skills in the construction industry.

Delivered by Stow College, the move is designed to ease the path for engineering technicians holding HNC or HNC qualifications to become incorporated engineers.

To meet the demand from these technicians for further training, the College has devised a part-time route - the Graduate Diploma in Civil Engineering. It is a two-year programme, approved by the Chartered Institute of Engineers, Institution of Structural Engineers and the Institute of Highway Incorporated Engineers.

Stephanie Young, SE Glasgow’s Skills Director, said: "Engineering technicians in full time employment often find it difficult to take the next step up the career ladder. This move by us will address industry demand for incorporated engineers."

SE Glasgow is funding half the fees for the first in-take of 20 students starting on the two year course this September.
