Consent was given under Section 36 of the Electricity Act 1989 to Severn Power Ltd for the construction of an 800MW Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) power station at Uskmouth, Newport, South Wales.
The station has also been given deemed planning permission under section 90 of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
As part of the section 36 consent, Ministers have included a condition to ensure that carbon capture plant can be retrofitted should that be necessary in the future.
Also Ministers have placed conditions in the Section 90 Direction, in addition to those agreed with the Local Planning Authority, that the company shall install the necessary plant and pipeworks to ensure that the station can supply heat in the future if the opportunity materialises; and a condition which will reduce the number of HGV movements for transporting concrete to the site of the proposed power station which they believe will go some way to alleviate the concerns of the residents of the Village of Nash.
