New Associate members Solar Century, Viridian Solar, Alpha Boilers and Worcester Bosch – the main manufacturer used by British Gas – agree with NFRC that while installers have previously been ‘specialist fixers’ and the remit has usually been given to a plumber or electrician it is actually more sensible for a roofer to be involved in the installation.

To this end, these manufacturers have been designing products that are simple and easy to install and that have clear distinction between the parts that the roofer installs and the internal parts that the roofer passes through to the plumber/electrician.
NFRC is already getting many enquiries for contractors who are trained to install solar panels, and the first course has already gone ahead.
