Costain Wins South Wales Road Contract

Construction group Costain has won a contract to work on Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council in Wales.

The company beat five other companies - Carillion, Alfred McAlpine, Birse and Nutall - to develop the Church Village bypass.

Work is due to begin on the Council’s ECI scheme in the first half of 2008/09 and it will tie in with the Welsh Assembly’s transport grant programme.

The work is expected to cost approximately £76 million.

Andrew Wyllie, Chief Executive of Costain, said: “This is another good project win and an extension of our strong position in the highways sector.”

The deal was first up for offer in 2005, but the council delayed sending out the tender paperwork for around a year.
