Climate Change Roadshow Aims To Reduce Carbon Emissions

Devon County Council’s Climate Change Roadshow will continue its tour of the county by visiting the Honiton Show next week.

The roadshow is supporting the ‘Do It For Devon’ campaign aimed at reducing domestic carbon emissions. It will be at the Honiton Show on Thursday 2 August.

Expert staff will be on hand to offer help on the simple changes you can make as well as giving renewable energy advice, to enable people to understand what causes climate change and how the public can make a difference.

Councillor Margaret Rogers, Devon County Council’s Executive Member for Environment, said: “Anyone looking for advice on how they can save energy and reduce their carbon footprint will be able to find useful advice at the Climate Change Roadshow.

“Having recently visited the roadshow in Seaton I have seen for myself the impressive equipment and expert staff on hand. It has given me confidence that visitors are being given the best information and help.”

Visitors to the Climate Change Roadshow will be given help to access a wealth of information about climate change using the Internet. The start-up costs were met by dedicated money made available by the Government for local authorities.

Anyone receiving benefits such as pension credit, income support or disability living allowance, will be able to collect up to four free energy saving lightbulbs.

5,000 low energy lightbulbs, donated by EDF as part of its energy efficiency programme, are being given away to offset the cost and carbon emissions of the campaign.

Cllr Barry Nicholson, Devon County Councillor for Honiton St Michael’s, said: “The Honiton Show always attracts a good crowd and the roadshow will potentially be able to reach a vast audience.

“Climate change is one of the biggest issues facing us, so I hope plenty of people will take the opportunity to visit the roadshow and find out what we can all do to reduce our impact on the environment.

“And I congratulate EDF for their king gesture of donating such a large quantity of light bulbs to help the work being carried out to tackle climate change.”
