Bob’s In Charge Of Clarkston Apartments

Work to build 45 private retirement apartments on the site of the old Scout Hall in Clarkston is underway.

Bob King, McCarthy & Stone’s site manager for the £5 million development on the junction of Mearns Road and Hillview Drive, is pleased with progress.

“The ground floor slabs are down and everything is going according to plan. There are 15 of us working on site but the whole area is very busy. In addition to our development, MacTaggart & Mickel are building a complex of flats, a new Scout Hall is being built and the church is being refurbished . We are all co-operating to keep disturbance to a minimum.”

This is the fourth McCarthy & Stone development that Bob has worked on. The previous ones include sites in Bishopbriggs, Lanark and Dunbar.

As with all the award-winning builder’s developments, the one in Clarkston - recently named Aidan’s View - is specifically designed for people over 60 who need a manageable and secure home without sacrificing their independence.

Each apartment is a self-contained home its own right, with an entrance hall, bathroom’ fitted kitchen, living room/dining area and one or two bedrooms. Designed to make life easier, features include easy-grip lever taps on sinks and baths, electric sockets at a convenient height to avoid bending down and a grab rail by the bath. Safety features include a personal emergency system to ensure that help is at hand 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Shared facilities at Aidan’s View will include a comfortable residents’ lounge, a laundry room, a guest suite and a landscaped garden.

Given the popularity of Clarkston and its proximity to Glasgow city centre, interest in the site from potential buyers is considerable. McCarthy & Stone believes that when they start to sell in Septempber/October they will have received around 1000 enquiries.
