Work Progresses On Home Regeneration Scheme In Moulsecoomb

Construction News Image

Construction is continuing on the Moulsecoomb Housing and Community Hub project in Brighton, a regeneration scheme that will deliver 222 new council homes alongside a new community hub and enhanced public spaces.

The development, which is being delivered by Wates Residential on behalf of Brighton & Hove City Council, has reached a significant construction milestone with concrete frame works now underway on the first residential block.

The scheme comprises eight residential buildings and eight family townhouses, creating three new streets as part of the transformation of the north Brighton site.

The first residential building is expected to be completed in March 2028, with the new community hub scheduled to open in September 2028. The overall development is due for completion by the end of 2028.

The community hub will bring together a range of local services, including a library, pharmacy, GP surgery, youth facilities, adult learning provision and a community café. The wider regeneration project will also include a skate park, a 3G football pitch and improved public spaces.

Construction activity is progressing across the site, with piling, groundworks and demolition works continuing, including the removal of the 67 Centre and Good News Centre buildings.

The project forms part of Brighton & Hove City Council's wider housing and regeneration programme and has been informed by consultation with local residents. More than 200 people participated in engagement activities that helped shape the design of both the housing development and the associated community facilities.

According to the project team, the development has so far created 43 local jobs and provided 11 work experience placements. Wates has also been working with local organisations, including the 67 Centre, to support initiatives benefiting the wider Moulsecoomb community.
