The gym and fitness studio at Brierton Sports Centre will welcome users back on Monday 13 July following a comprehensive refit, with members who paused their subscriptions receiving free access from 13–31 July before payments restart on 1 August.
Operated by Hartlepool Borough Council's Active Hartlepool service, the venue has been overhauled to enhance health and wellbeing provision for residents, with final touches now being completed ahead of reopening.
Both the fitness suite and studio have been refreshed to create a brighter, more contemporary and higher‑performance setting.
Studio improvements include an immersive sound and lighting set‑up, a projector and screen enabling virtual and on‑demand spin sessions, brand‑new Technogym bikes, a larger footprint achieved by removing two internal walls, a suspended ceiling, new flooring and full redecoration. Fire safety doors have been upgraded and air conditioning installed to keep the space comfortable throughout classes.
The fitness suite has also been reconfigured and equipped with the latest Technogym kit, with steppers added in direct response to member feedback. Users will benefit from an enlarged training area created through structural changes, specialist gym flooring, improved lighting and audio, fresh décor and upgraded air‑conditioning systems.
Away from the workout areas, toilets have been completely refurbished with new cubicles, sinks and fittings, while the changing‑room showers have been modernised.
The investment at Brierton is part of a wider programme to bolster leisure facilities across Hartlepool. It follows last summer’s upgrade at Headland Sports Centre and comes only weeks after the opening of Highlight, the town’s new multi‑million‑pound Active Wellbeing Hub.
