Plans Submitted for Next Phase of Fordingbridge Development

Hampshire-based housebuilder Pennyfarthing Homes has submitted a detailed reserved matters planning application for the next phase of its Sandle Park development in Fordingbridge. Situated off Whitsbury Road, this latest proposal follows the approval of the project's initial 74-home phase in May 2025, where on-site construction is scheduled to begin imminently.

The new phase outlines plans for 100 properties, with 25% designated as affordable housing across Shared Ownership, Affordable Rent, and the First Homes scheme. Designed to meet a variety of household requirements, the residential mix spans one- to four-bedroom homes and includes 35 single-storey bungalows tailored for downsizers and those requiring accessible living options.

The development layout incorporates substantial landscaping, informal open spaces, a large play area, and connections to existing footpaths leading into the surrounding countryside. Built around Pennyfarthing Homes' 'New Forest' design style, the architectural approach combines local traditional character with modern standards. The infrastructure plans also integrate electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities and sustainable drainage systems.

Nick Stone, Land and Planning Director at Pennyfarthing Homes, commented: "The first phase of Sandle Park was met with support from the Council, and we are excited to build on that success with this next 100 homes. This phase delivers a carefully crafted mix of homes and green spaces, ensuring Sandle Park meets local needs while enhancing Fordingbridge's character. Our focus on sustainable design, accessibility, and quality materials means this will be a place people are proud to call home."

The Sandle Park site sits within the broader Forde Valley area, close to Whitsbury Green—another Pennyfarthing Homes scheme that is now nearly sold out. The local area provides access to nearby footpaths, cycle tracks, and open spaces, alongside community amenities such as independent shops, educational facilities, cafes, and an art deco cinema.

With access from Whitsbury Road already established and planning permission secured for the initial phase, this subsequent stage aims to progress the housebuilder's delivery of varied housing types and integrated green spaces in the locality.
