Two ornate gateways in Wisbech town centre have been removed on a temporary basis for safety repairs and restoration following an inspection.
The steel 'High Street' and 'Market Place' arches, installed more than 30 years ago as entrances to the historic centre, were taken down on Wednesday 23 June to protect the public. They will undergo repair and refurbishment before being reinstated.
A smaller third arch at the entrance to Hill Street was also inspected but did not need to be removed at this stage.
A Fenland District Council spokesperson said: "Public safety is always our priority. Following an inspection, two of the ornate arches were removed so that repairs can be carried out. They will be restored and returned once the work is complete. We appreciate residents' patience while this work takes place."
