Arup Completes Acquisition of UK Nature Recovery Platform EnTrade

Construction News Image

Following a successful joint venture with YTL UK, Arup has completed the acquisition of EnTrade, the leading marketplace for nature recovery in the UK.

Nature recovery markets serve as an essential mechanism for environmental restoration and the creation of resilient, regenerative locations. This acquisition underscores Arup's commitment to delivering strategic and technical advice alongside practical solutions, ensuring businesses have access to robust, equitable methods for investing in nature.

EnTrade has pioneered market-based strategies designed to mobilise private capital for nature recovery whilst unlocking economic growth. The company has created a unique platform to facilitate these transactions and has successfully managed two pilot markets.

As the first end-to-end environmental market operator in the UK, EnTrade coordinates corporate investments into local, nature-based projects that lower greenhouse gas emissions, enhance water quality, and boost biodiversity. This structure allows farmers and land managers to generate income from environmental initiatives, whilst assisting businesses in achieving their sustainability targets.

Since the beginning of 2026, Arup has been formulating the next stages of EnTrade's strategy and has initiated the integration of the service into its international consultancy operations.

Tom Wilcock, Managing Director at Arup UKIMEA, said: "We've been very pleased to play our part alongside YTL UK in the development of EnTrade and with YTL UK, rationalising its investment. We are excited by the potential value we can create by integrating EnTrade into Arup."

Vikki Williams, Digital Water Leader at Arup, remarked: "We have a responsibility to protect and restore the natural environment. I am thrilled that this next step in our relationship with EnTrade will enable Arup's expertise to drive leading-edge policy and digital technology into transforming how nature is treated within our economy."

In tandem with these operational changes, the Environmental Markets Board—which delivers independent oversight for catchment markets—will be set up as a distinct legal entity. This separation is intended to uphold transparency, integrity, and robust governance across environmental markets throughout the country.
