Van Elle's Ground Improvement team has completed a substantial ground improvement package at Indurent Park, Newport, currently the largest new-build industrial and logistics scheme under construction in Wales.

Delivered for Glencar Construction Ltd, the works formed part of a multi-unit programme across the 100-acre site and involved installing rigid inclusions to support pad foundations and ground-bearing floor slabs.

Set on the former Llanwern steelworks, the project required a foundation approach capable of addressing variable and complex ground conditions to depths of approximately 12 metres.

Rigid inclusions were selected as an efficient and sustainable solution, meeting performance requirements while supporting programme delivery.

Across a 10-week programme, the team executed the works over five industrial units, managing constraints including obstructions from legacy piles and buried reinforcement. Productivity was maintained by deploying pre-boring rigs alongside three rigid inclusion rigs.

Indurent Park Newport forms part of the wider Glan Llyn Regeneration, a 600-acre redevelopment transforming the area into a major commercial and employment hub for South Wales.

On completion, the development will provide high-quality Grade-A industrial and logistics space targeting BREEAM Excellent and EPC A+ ratings, with infrastructure for photovoltaic roof systems and electric vehicle charging.

Completion of this package marks another milestone for Van Elle, showcasing its capability to deliver efficient, large-scale ground improvement on complex brownfield sites.
