Gleeds Secures Extended Role at Hinkley Point C Under New EDF Framework

Construction News Image

International property and construction consultancy Gleeds has been chosen to deliver programme and commercial management services for Hinkley Point C (HPC). Appointed by major utilities provider EDF Energy, which is part of EDF's Nuclear Family, the new Professional Services framework agreement takes over from the previous framework that concluded at the close of 2025.

Running until the final completion of the Somerset-based HPC development, this latest appointment extends the scope of Gleeds' responsibilities. The firm's role will grow from its previous focus on commercial and contract management services to encompass a broader spectrum of programme management, project management, and business support functions.

For the last ten years, Gleeds has supplied professional services to aid the delivery of the HPC project, delivering strategic guidance to the EDF Energy client team regarding the administration of complex construction programmes in the strictly regulated nuclear industry. Up to this point, the consultancy has focused on setting up and supervising significant site civil works contracts during the post-contract stage, which includes the marine works and main civil works.

Commenting on the latest appointment, Mark Graves, Head of Energy and Defence at Gleeds, said: "Nuclear power is one of the most reliable, low-carbon energy sources available to the UK today and the EDF nuclear family is playing a key role in the development of projects that are leading the 'nuclear renaissance' - Hinkley Point C alone is expected to provide enough low-carbon electricity to meet 7% of the UK demand. It's gratifying to see that our team's vast experience in this challenging field has been recognised with this reappointment and I look forward to our continuing involvement with HPC through to its completion."

Gleeds brings more than 40 years of experience in providing specialist consultancy services to the nuclear sector, having previously supported the construction of EDF Energy's operating power station fleet, such as the Sizewell B Pressurized Water Reactor in the 1990s and the Advanced Gas-cooled Reactors in the 1980s. The consultancy's involvement with the Hinkley Point C development dates back to 2015, and it has also been working on Sizewell C since 2022.
