Galliford Try marked the unveiling of the new road name for the Melton Mowbray Distributor Road (MMDR) alongside Roads Minister Simon Lightwood MP, ahead of its official opening to traffic.

Selected by a public vote to reflect the town's celebrated food heritage, the route will be known as 'Pork Pie Way', recognising Melton Mowbray's status as the Rural Capital of Food. The ceremony was attended by key community figures and representatives from Leicestershire County Council, underlining the importance of the project.

Delivered for Leicestershire County Council, the 4.4-mile link runs from the A606 Nottingham Road near St Bartholomew's Way, skirting the eastern edge of Melton Mowbray before reconnecting with the A606 near Burton Lazars. The scheme includes six new roundabouts, four bridges, and a 100m diversion of the River Eye, creating new habitat for local wildlife.

Designed to draw through-traffic away from the town centre, the road aims to reduce congestion, improve journey reliability and support future housing and economic growth. The project has also received an 'Outstanding' rating from the Considerate Constructors Scheme, including three Gold Awards for excellence in safety, environmental care and consideration for local communities.
