Winvic Construction Ltd has used UKREiiF 2026 to officially unveil a major ESG whitepaper, which demands enhanced regulatory alignment to bolster the creation of net zero carbon aligned properties throughout the UK.

Created alongside the Westminster body, The Policy Liaison Group (PLG) on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), the document is titled From Commitment to Compliance: Why the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard Needs Regulatory Backing. It asserts that while the sector is prepared to transition from high ambitions to verified operational performance, it fundamentally lacks the regulatory and policy backing required for widespread, uniform integration.

The publication analyzes the various hurdles and advantages tied to the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard (UKNZCBS), which was introduced earlier this year following significant sector-wide collaboration.

To provide realistic guidance for investors, industry figures, and the government, the report utilizes findings from a Westminster roundtable as well as interviews with experts working across planning, investment, development, policy, sustainability, and construction.

A wide variety of organisations contributed to the work, including the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Building Research Establishment (BRE), Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI), BWB Consulting, Firethorn Trust, Panattoni, Ridge and Partners, Royal London Asset Management, UMC Architects, Wordsworth Excavations, Lord Gary Porter CBE, and Lancaster City Council.

According to the report, the technical hurdles to net zero delivery have largely been solved, leaving regulatory alignment as the primary catalyst needed to spark market-wide adoption.

The main recommendations detailed in the text involve integrating the UKNZCBS directly into nationwide regulatory and planning systems, enforcing the verification of operational performance, connecting financial structures to proven carbon results, and streamlining reporting methods across carbon and ESG metrics.

The whitepaper was introduced at the 'Winvic and Partners Pavilion' during UKREiiF, serving as a hub for industry figures to debate accountability, delivery, and policy regarding net zero targets.

This launch coincides with Winvic celebrating its 25th anniversary in business. As part of its broader involvement at UKREiiF, the firm is holding a series of collaborative workshops and panel talks addressing data centres, build-to-rent, social value, planning reform, sustainability, and industrial and logistics development.
