A47 Blofield To North Burlingham Fully Open After 18-Month Build

Construction News Image

Galliford Try Infrastructure has reached a key milestone on the A47 between Blofield and North Burlingham, with the scheme now fully open for traffic (OfT).

Following 18 months of construction, a new 2.6-mile section of dual carriageway is open to the public, providing two lanes in each direction and a 70mph speed limit.

To mark the opening, the project team posed for a photograph on the Blofield overbridge before gathering for a team barbecue at a nearby riverside venue.

As the opening falls within the pre-election period, celebrations were held internally with client National Highways, with a larger external event involving local MPs, distinguished guests and the media planned for June.

The scheme is designed to deliver long-term benefits, including improved safety through fewer collisions and more reliable journey times by reducing congestion and delays. It will also support sustainable economic growth by unlocking employment and housing opportunities and enhancing facilities for cyclists and pedestrians.

Tom Farley, Galliford Try Project Director for A47 Blofield, said: "I'm hugely proud of the team for the effort and commitment they've shown to get the new A47 stretch between Blofield and North Burlingham open on time for local people. This milestone reflects an immense collaborative effort and after 18 months of hard work, it’s incredibly rewarding to see the road in use, delivering a safer, more efficient journey for everyone who relies on this route."
