Solfit Launches Solar System and Delivery Framework

Construction News Image

Solfit has introduced a brand-new solar system and delivery framework tailored for UK housebuilders. The structured framework aims to streamline how solar PV is specified, integrated, and deployed across multi-plot residential developments as the industry gears up for the implementation of the Future Homes Standard in 2028.

As the upcoming Standard will mandate on-site electricity generation and heightened energy performance, solar PV is shifting from an optional feature to a fundamental piece of residential design. Solfit's new offering treats solar as a fully specified system integrated into the building fabric rather than a standalone product, combining system design, product configuration, and delivery oversight to achieve consistency across housing portfolios.

The framework features specification-led design that aligns with Part L regulations and the Future Homes Standard, utilizing integrated electrical architecture to reduce DC risk at the roof level. It is structured to align with warranty provider criteria while enhancing coordination between design, procurement, and on-site construction. This addresses common industry challenges such as supply chain fragmentation, installation inconsistencies, fire safety, and electrical risks.

The system relies on a compliance-driven design approach, incorporating an AC-based architecture to reduce high-voltage DC on roofs, a B Roof (t4) fire certification for roof compliance, and MCS-aligned design principles. It functions as an in-roof system built into the building fabric, avoiding traditional add-on mounting methods.

Coinciding with the framework's rollout, Solfit has appointed Lee Chadwick as Managing Director to lead engagement with housebuilders and sector stakeholders.

Lee Chadwick commented: "The Future Homes Standard is driving a fundamental shift in how energy is designed into new homes. The challenge is no longer whether solar is required, but how it is specified, integrated and delivered consistently at scale. Solfit has been developed to address that challenge directly, aligning specification, system design and delivery into a single framework that housebuilders can adopt with confidence."

With the Future Homes Standard nearing and emerging HSE guidance placing greater scrutiny on fire and system-level risk, solar is transitioning into a core building system. Solfit's newly launched approach is designed to help housebuilders successfully navigate this transition while fulfilling current and future regulatory demands.
