Yorkshire Water has begun a £1.2m mains replacement in the Cross Hill area of Fairburn, near Knottingley, on Monday 11 May to reduce bursts and improve water quality in the area.

Contract partner OCU will install more than 4.7km of new clean water mains, starting at Cross Hill at the junction with Gauk Street, and along Caudle Hill from the junction with Cross Hill to outside Hayloft.

The scheme is one of several being delivered across the region as part of a £406m programme that will see over 1,000km of water mains replaced by 2030.

Victoria Corbett, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "Replacing the clean water network with durable, resilient pipework will improve the quality and reliability of water supplies, reduce leakage and prevent further bursts, helping us to deliver the quality of service that our customers rightly expect."

"The investment in the clean water network is part of Yorkshire Water's wider £8.3bn programme to improve services for customers and upgrade infrastructure across the region in the next five years."

The project is expected to complete in September, and Yorkshire Water is in contact with residents to advise them of any localised disruption.
