Amphion Construction Begins Work on £31.5m Toyota Fleet Management Facility

Amphion Construction, a West Midlands-based firm with manufacturing facilities in Walsall and Tipton, has officially commenced work on a significant £31.5 million project for Toyota Material Handling UK (TMHUK). The company secured the contract to build a next-generation Fleet Management Centre at Old Dalby Business Park in Leicestershire.

The project involves the development of a 175,000 sq ft facility designed to feature contemporary workshop and production zones, a secure yard, sustainable office space, and substantial storage options both indoors and outdoors. With a workforce of more than 300 employees, Amphion Construction aims to complete the build within a 12-month timeframe.

Stewart Bowen, Chairman of Amphion Group, noted that the completion date is set for early next year, pending planning approval. The new development is intended to bolster TMHUK’s growing refurbished truck business; the company currently handles over 12,000 trucks annually at its present Old Dalby location.

Regarding the project's scale and the company's local roots, Mr Bowen stated: "Our group proudly employs more than 300 skilled professionals, all based in the Black Country, where we have grown into a leading force in UK construction and manufacturing. For this project, Amphion will have between 60 and 70 team members on site at any one time, supported by its integrated supply chain and in-house manufacturing divisions."

The build will see direct involvement from other entities within the Amphion Group. Superior Sections is tasked with the full office fit-out and the supply of steel components such as purlins, while CAF Limited will manage the roofing, cladding, and the external envelope using group-manufactured materials.

Mr Bowen further explained: "Delivering a major facility in just 12 months despite the complexity and scale of the development, Amphion is targeting an accelerated 12-month construction period. This is made achievable through its controlled supply chain, integrated manufacturing capability and the coordinated deployment of expert teams across the entire project lifecycle."

Founded in the Black Country in 2005, Amphion Group has evolved into a major provider of integrated construction and manufacturing services, spanning the residential, commercial, industrial, and community sectors throughout the UK. Mr Bowen described the contract as a major achievement for the West Midlands and Leicestershire, highlighting its contribution to regional economic growth and employment.

Reflecting on the company’s 20th anniversary last year, Mr Bowen said: "It's our people, our local manufacturing facilities, and the projects we've delivered across the UK that have made this journey possible. As we look to the future, we remain committed to innovating, investing, and creating spaces where communities and businesses can truly thrive."
