Sizewell C Names McLaren Construction To Manage Key Projects

Sizewell C has appointed McLaren Construction as its construction management partner under a three-year framework agreement.

The appointment will see McLaren supervise and co-ordinate delivery of a permanent post-16 college, a temporary accommodation campus with an amenity building, a project office, and an emergency response facility.

McLaren's Construction Management and Specialist Projects division will initially support delivery of elements of the accommodation campus and amenity buildings, which will be central to supporting the project's workforce during construction on the Suffolk coast.

Last year, Sizewell C confirmed plans for the College on the Coast in its host town of Leiston, intended to improve access to post-16 education and training for local people.

Vince Lydon, Managing Director for Construction Management and Specialist Projects at McLaren Construction, said: "Delivering construction management services for one of the most nationally significant infrastructure projects in the UK is testament to the track record and capability of our team.

"Through this framework appointment we are creating long-term local employment opportunities, supporting the community during the construction timeline."

More than 2,000 people are now working on the Sizewell C site each day. The project has awarded over £3bn in contracts to more than 400 British suppliers, including nearly £1bn to businesses in East Suffolk. Over 70% of total construction spend is set to go to UK companies, supporting an average of just under 9,000 direct and indirect jobs a year during the build.

Damian Leydon, Site Delivery Director of Sizewell C, said: "Only two years after triggering our Development Consent Order, we're making significant progress onsite here in Suffolk. This contract marks another big step forward, as we look to deliver some key construction projects.

"McLaren bring a huge amount of expertise and experience in construction management across a range of projects – so they're an ideal partner to help us deliver safely, efficiently, and to an extremely high standard."
