Sherwood's refurbished library has officially reopened following a major redevelopment.

The project restores a valued community hub at the heart of the neighbourhood.

Councillor Neghat Khan, Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: "I'm incredibly excited that we're finally reopening Sherwood Library. This is a proud and long-awaited moment for our community.

"We know how much this library means to local people, and it's fantastic to see it brought back to life as a bright, modern and welcoming space.

"I'm really pleased we've been able to deliver on our commitment to reopen the library this spring. It's been a complex project, and I'd like to thank everyone involved for their hard work in making this happen.

The opening began with a ribbon-cutting led by the Council Leader and local schoolchildren before the library welcomed visitors from 10am. A busy first weekend is anticipated as residents come to see the upgraded facilities.

A programme of events is under way for families and adults. Children's activities include owl sculpture workshops with Laura Mathews and performances by children’s music act Johnny and the Raindrops.

A limited number of tickets are available for The Sherwood Social with Sofar Sounds on Friday 24 April from 7pm to 9.30pm, featuring three live acoustic acts revealed on the night. Library users can book for £10 using the code SHERWOOD10.

The refreshed space also includes a scarecrow exhibition inspired by popular children’s characters, alongside thousands of new books to browse and borrow.

Beyond launch events, Sherwood Library will host regular community activities such as reading groups and craft sessions. Weekly Totstime for under-fives will run every Friday from 10.30–11am, with stories, music and sensory play.

The reopening coincides with the launch of a new adult reading initiative, Read, Return, Repeat, encouraging people to rediscover books and make regular use of their local library.
