Equans has been appointed by City of Doncaster Council to deliver a new programme to modernise homes across the city, helping residents cut energy bills and stay warmer year-round.

The scheme will cover social rented homes managed by St Leger Homes, as well as a number of privately owned properties.

Work will begin in Edlington, where more than 50 bungalows and houses will receive new roofs as existing ones come up for replacement. The upgrades are designed to reduce heat loss and make the homes easier and more efficient to heat.

A further 21 homes in areas including Cadeby, Toll Bar and Tickhill will receive tailored packages of measures, such as air source heat pumps, solar panels, additional insulation and improved ventilation systems.

The improvements could reduce annual household energy costs, with carbon emissions cut by up to 2.5 tonnes per home each year — roughly equivalent to driving 15,000 miles in a petrol car.

Energy monitoring devices will also be installed, giving residents greater control over heating use and enabling St Leger Homes to assess the impact of the works.

Future phases will extend energy efficiency measures to more council and privately owned homes, supporting St Leger Homes and City of Doncaster Council’s ambition to make the city greener and healthier.

The programme will be part-funded by the Government’s Warm Homes Fund, which aims to tackle fuel poverty and cut emissions from existing housing.

The contract was secured via the Greener Futures Partnership decarbonisation delivery framework — managed by Pretium Frameworks — which helps local authorities and housing providers to decarbonise homes and future‑proof communities.
