Brighton & Hove City Council is asking for views on proposals to bring Hove Park School together on a single site at Nevill Campus from September 2028.

The council wants to hear from pupils, parents and carers, school staff and governors, and the wider Hove Park School community so it can understand the potential impacts and use the feedback to inform its decision-making.

An online consultation is running on the council’s Your Voice platform and is open until 25 May 2026. In addition, the council will host engagement events on the following dates:

- Thursday 23 April 2026 – 9am at Hove Park School, Valley Campus, Hove, BN3 8AD

- Monday 27 April 2026 – 9am at Hove Park School, Nevill Campus, Hove, BN3 7BN

- Wednesday 6 May 2026 – 4pm (online)

Falling enrolment across the city has created financial pressures for schools, as funding is directly linked to pupil numbers. Hove Park School has already reduced its Published Admission Number (PAN) from 300 to 180.

The school currently operates on 2 sites: Valley Campus and Nevill Campus. With the school’s support, the council is proposing to consolidate operations at Nevill Campus from September 2028, with Valley Campus earmarked for disposal.

An initial consultation took place between 22 April and 3 June 2025, attracting 169 responses. Of these, 60% opposed the proposal, 22% were unsure and 18% supported it.

A frequent concern was the lack of preliminary drawings and design plans for the Nevill Road works, which respondents said made it hard to assess the full implications. In response, the council commissioned architectural designs for the Nevill Road Campus ahead of this new consultation to give the community a clearer picture of the consolidated school.

Councillor Jacob Taylor, Deputy Leader of the Council, said: "We're seeking feedback on these proposals which aim to address falling pupil numbers at Hove Park School, as reflected in its recent PAN reduction from September 2026.

"This is a really exciting opportunity for us to improve operational efficiency at Hove Park School while maintaining its distinctive culture and ethos and protecting educational quality for its pupils.

"We want to hear from parents and carers, students, school staff and governors and local residents about these proposals to ensure any final plans reflect the needs of Hove Park School's community."

After the consultation closes, responses will be analysed and a decision will be taken on whether to publish a statutory notice proposing the closure of Valley Campus.

If that happens, a 4-week representation period will run from Monday 8 June to Monday 6 July, during which further feedback can be submitted.

Cabinet is then scheduled to meet on Thursday 16 July to decide whether to proceed and to agree plans for the disposal of Valley Campus. Any decision will be subject to planning permission, as building works would be required to create additional classrooms and facilities to accommodate pupils safely at Nevill Campus.
