First Residents Move Into 196-Home Affordable Housing Scheme In Coventry

The first residents have begun moving into a new 196-home affordable housing development in Coventry, marking a key milestone for the scheme.

Located on Sphinx Drive, the development is being managed by Midlands-based social landlord Platform Housing Group, with homes constructed by Vistry. The project will ultimately deliver a mix of houses and apartments aimed at addressing local housing demand.

Platform Housing Group, which manages around 50,000 homes across the Midlands and delivers approximately 1,600 new properties each year, is working in partnership with Vistry and Coventry City Council to bring the scheme forward. The organisation is among several housing associations contributing to the government’s target of building 1.5 million homes nationwide.

The development will provide homes for local residents through a range of tenures, including affordable rent, social rent and shared ownership, helping to reduce pressure on housing waiting lists and temporary accommodation. The project has also received £12.5 million in grant funding from Homes England, the government’s housing and regeneration agency.

Pawel Wiktor, Regional Head of Delivery at Platform Housing Group said: "It's been great to see people moving in and benefitting from the security and foundations that come with a place to call home. I want to thank Vistry and our partners at Coventry City Council for ensuring we deliver these quality, affordable options for local people. Combined with our site at Bennetts Road in nearby Keresley, we’re delivering nearly 500 affordable homes for the Coventry area and hope to build more of the right homes for people in the coming years."

Fraser Hope, Managing Director of Vistry South West Midlands said: "Seeing the first residents move into their new homes at Sphinx Drive is a proud moment and an important step forward for affordable housing in Coventry. This project demonstrates what can be achieved when partners share the same ambition and vision. It is through that shared vision we have been able to work with Platform Housing Group, Coventry City Council and Homes England to deliver high quality homes that local people can afford."

Construction on the £51 million scheme began in 2024 and is scheduled for completion in spring 2027. Once finished, the development will include a mix of one- and two-bedroom apartments, alongside two-, three- and four-bedroom houses. The project will also deliver contributions to the nearby Sphinx Sports and Social Club.
