Esh Construction To Deliver £9.3m Guisborough Improvements

Esh Construction has been selected by Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council to deliver two Government‑funded improvement schemes in Guisborough, with a combined value of £9.3 million.

The programme is designed to enhance active travel routes, refresh parts of the town centre and support longer‑term regeneration and public realm improvements.

Alan Croft, Construction Manager at Esh Construction, said: "These improvement works mark a significant step forward for Guisborough. The scheme will deliver safer, more accessible routes whilst maintaining the historic character of the High Street, which is extremely important to the local community.

"Esh is pleased to be collaborating with Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council on these important improvements, applying our technical expertise and local knowledge to help deliver meaningful enhancements. Working closely with the Council, our focus will be on safe delivery, quality outcomes and keeping disruption to a minimum."

Work will start on a new walking and cycling link connecting Guisborough Town Centre to the Guisborough Forest Visitor Centre at Pinchinthorpe.

Early activity includes widening footpaths along the A173 Stokesley Road, Hutton Lane and Thames Avenue, plus new signage and pedestrian dropped crossings on The Avenue. These tasks will precede construction progressing along Stokesley Road into the summer, before moving on to The Avenue.

The project is the first step in broadening active travel options for people walking, cycling, wheeling or scooting in and around the town. A subsequent phase, delivered with the Tees Valley Combined Authority, will further strengthen connectivity between Guisborough and Nunthorpe.

At the end of April, Esh will also commence town centre upgrades, including pavement improvements, new street furniture to complement the town’s character, a new pedestrian crossing near New Road, feature lighting and the replacement of tree lights to encourage a more vibrant evening atmosphere.

On completion, upgrades to Westgate and Chaloner Street aim to create a more welcoming, accessible environment for residents and visitors, bolster local businesses and enhance the overall town centre experience.
