New switches and crossings entered service at London Waterloo on Tuesday 7 April after Network Rail and South Western Railway completed major works over the Easter weekend.

The partnership used the planned closure to finish this essential renewal and push ahead with other tasks to maximise progress while services were halted.

Engineers installed four new switches and crossings on the approach to platforms 18–24, which handle trains towards Windsor & Eton Riverside, Reading and Weybridge (via Staines).

With hundreds of services using these assets each day, and alongside strengthening and refurbishment of the railway bridge over Lambeth Road, the approach into Waterloo has been made more resilient to reduce delays and disruption for passengers.

At Clapham Junction, Britain's busiest interchange, teams also erected a scaffold crash deck beneath the footbridge between platforms 3 and 6, enabling upcoming upgrades to the walkway used by thousands of travellers daily.
