Ealing Council Appoints Morgan Sindall To Deliver £29.3m Eco Teaching Block

Morgan Sindall Construction's London business has been selected by Ealing Council to carry out a £29.3 million redevelopment at Villiers High School in Southall, centred on a new three-storey eco teaching block.

Procured via the Southern Construction Framework (SCF), the scheme will replace an ageing 1960s building with a modern, energy‑efficient facility designed to expand capacity, enhance teaching and learning environments, and meet rising demand for school places.

The new block will include 22 classrooms, 11 science laboratories, six ICT/media suites, staff and welfare facilities, and a rooftop sky garden.

On completion, the project will enable the school to respond directly to local education needs, with flexibility to tailor student numbers to future requirements in Southall.

Supporting the school's wider sustainability goals, the building will feature air source heat pumps, rooftop solar panels and rainwater conservation systems. A significant proportion of its energy demand will be met off‑grid. The design also introduces a rooftop sky garden and outdoor learning space, with plans for a surrounding Forest School and a new entrance.

Internally, flexible, high‑quality spaces will be arranged around natural light, nature‑inspired colours, ventilation and acoustic comfort to promote learning and wellbeing.

As a tier one contractor, Morgan Sindall will deliver a comprehensive social value programme, including an Employment and Skills Plan to create local jobs, develop skills and support career pathways.

The programme, delivered with Ealing Council, West London College, Jobcentre Plus, Construction Youth Trust and Bounce Back, will offer site tours, careers talks, workshops and pre‑employment training, alongside 10 new jobs, three apprenticeships, 16 work experience placements and one T‑Level opportunity.

Richard Dobson, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in London, said: "With all the development taking place in the Southall area thanks to the creation of the Elizabeth line, it's vital that the local educational infrastructure can meet the demands of the growing community."
