Knowsley Council has signed a Grant Funding Agreement with Homes England, unlocking £19.14m to advance its redevelopment plans for Huyton.

The agreement follows a business case submitted by Knowsley Council and its development partner, Genr8 Kajima Regeneration Ltd, for the next phase of work through Homes England’s Brownfield Infrastructure Land Funding programme. It also comes after the council lodged a planning application covering its seven-acre site, proposing to replace outdated buildings with a mixed-use neighbourhood featuring more than 400 new homes, commercial space, a village green, improved public realm, a community hub and a sustainable travel hub at the heart of Huyton.

The grant will pay for early enabling and infrastructure works to prepare sites for future residential and commercial development, and for public realm enhancements that improve connections and social spaces. An empty building on Cavendish Walks will be refurbished as a community hub, including the relocation of the library on to the high street. Funding will also be used to demolish the existing multi-storey car park and carry out site preparation for a new multi-storey sustainable travel hub on Lathom Road.
