Pontypridd M&S Redevelopment Triggers Three-Week Lane And Footbridge Closure

Upcoming works linked to the former M&S site redevelopment in Pontypridd will require a temporary closure of the lane alongside the site, which will in turn close the M&S footbridge access into Ynysangharad War Memorial Park for three weeks from Friday 10 April.

The redevelopment of the M&S/Dorothy Perkins site on Taff Street began last year, with contractor Horan Construction Ltd on track to finish in late spring 2026. The new riverside plaza will provide a welcoming public space with greenery, small food and drink kiosks, and open views of the River Taff.

As works near completion, the adjacent lane is needed for essential improvements, including resurfacing, and will be closed from Friday 10 April to Friday 1 May. The Council is issuing advance notice as this will require the M&S bridge access to be taken out of use.

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park will remain open during its usual seasonal hours, with three alternative entrances available: the main gates off Bridge Street, the Llys Cadwyn bridge near Gas Road Car Park, and the Taff Trail link near the football pitches.

Officers will place advance notice signs at the M&S bridge to inform park users and town centre visitors, and the Council will work closely with organisers of local events. The Saturday morning Parkrun and the Lido Ponty season will be unaffected. All town centre businesses will also be open as usual.

The Council's small provision of disabled parking bays within the park will continue to operate during the planned bridge closure. Thanks to residents and visitors in advance for your cooperation.
