Chadderton has secured a £20 million Pride in Place investment after government approval, paving the way for a ten-year programme of improvements shaped by local residents.

In the first four years, funding will prioritise local economic growth through grants for businesses and community groups, enhanced safety with new CCTV, upgrades to public spaces and pedestrian crossings, and restoration of the historic Foxdenton Hall. There will also be targeted investment in youth provision and initiatives that celebrate local pride.

The plan has been developed by the Chadderton Neighbourhood Board following extensive engagement via workshops, focus groups, surveys and creative sessions. Residents highlighted safer streets, stronger youth services, support for local businesses and more inclusive community spaces as their top priorities.

Pride in Place will ensure people continue to influence decisions as the programme progresses, with improvements set to benefit streets, parks, cultural and community facilities and heritage assets.

Alongside Chadderton's funding, a further £20m has been allocated to the Alt neighbourhood as part of the government’s Pride in Place strategy to create safer, more empowered and resilient communities.

Oldham Council Leader Cllr Arooj Shah said: "I'm absolutely delighted for the people of Chadderton and excited to see how plans develop. This investment is a huge milestone for the town, and a real show of confidence in Oldham as a whole. What makes this especially exciting is that local people will be right at the heart of shaping what happens next.

"This is just one part of a much bigger transformation happening right across the borough, with £20m funding earmarked for Alt, and of course the £450m regeneration of Oldham town centre.

"We are building a more confident Oldham, one where outside investment is rising, opportunities are growing, and residents are starting to feel the difference in their everyday lives."
