Construction Starts On 66 New Council Homes In Netherfield

Milton Keynes City Council and Higgins Partnerships have begun construction on 66 new council homes at the former Cripps Lodge site in Netherfield, marking a major step forward in the city's efforts to provide accessible and sustainable housing.

Key partners and local representatives attended a ground-breaking event onsite to celebrate the start of work.

The new development will include a mix of bungalows, houses, and apartments designed for all residents, with a particular focus on older people and those with reduced mobility. Homes will feature step-free layouts, accessible kitchens and bathrooms, private gardens, off-road parking, and easy-to-navigate outdoor spaces. Energy-efficient measures will also be incorporated to help keep bills low for tenants.

Construction is scheduled to continue through 2028, with updates and opportunities for local residents to view the designs as the project progresses.

Higgins Partnerships was selected through the council's More for MK scheme, which encourages contractors to deliver wider community benefits such as apprenticeships, local job creation, and support for local businesses.

Cripps Lodge previously provided sheltered housing but was demolished in 2020 after becoming disused. The new project forms part of Milton Keynes City Council’s broader strategy to tackle homelessness and reduce reliance on temporary accommodation. Last year, the council completed 183 homes at the Lakes Estate and purchased 21 flats in Fairfields using ‘right to buy’ funds, with plans to invest further in family housing.

Dominic Higgins, Chief Operating Officer for Higgins Group, said: "We are delighted to reach this milestone and begin construction on these much-needed high-quality council homes. At Higgins, our commitment goes beyond delivering new homes; we are equally focused on creating lasting benefits for the local community."
