Browns Lane Scheme Launches Sefton 2030, Bringing Homes To Former Bootle High School Site

The Sovini Group, working with Sefton Council, has unveiled the first major project under the Sefton 2030 programme: the regeneration of the former Bootle High School site on Browns Lane, Netherton, to create sustainable, affordable homes for local people.

The Browns Lane scheme is the flagship opening phase of a wider plan to deliver more than 1,000 affordable homes across the borough. Affordable housing in the programme spans social rent and low-cost home ownership options, including Shared Ownership and Rent to Buy. Phase one alone is expected to provide 400 high-quality properties in Sefton.

By prioritising the reuse of brownfield land, the initiative aims to revitalise neighbourhoods while directly addressing rising demand for affordable housing. The development is intended to reduce dependence on temporary accommodation by helping families move into secure, long-term tenancies that support stability and community roots.

Sefton Council leader Cllr Marion Atkinson said: "It's great to see that Sefton 2030 will provide much needed new homes for local people to rent and buy, getting underway here at Browns Lane. People will see these eye-catching hoardings going up at sites across Sefton as the Council and Sovini forge ahead with the partnership.

"The partnership will also provide jobs and training opportunities for local people and the money we raise from the land sales will also goes towards funding services we provide across the Borough, so it provides benefits for everyone."

The project has also been backed by local representatives who see significant potential benefits for residents and the local economy. Cllr Carla Thomas of St Oswald Ward in Sefton said: "It's absolutely fantastic to see the Sefton 2030 partnership coming together to deliver something so ambitious in my local area. This is a wonderful opportunity for people who are looking to get a foot on the property ladder in a thriving area."
