Hull Footpaths Announces Major Upgrade Across 18 Streets

Footpaths across Hull being improved as part of Hull City Council's annual slurry seal programme, with work scheduled to begin later this month.

The city-wide scheme will see around 19,000 square metres of footpaths upgraded across 18 streets and one park identified as priority areas. Works commenced on Monday 23 March and are expected to be completed by Wednesday 22 April, subject to weather conditions.

The improvements will use slurry sealing, a surface treatment that applies a thin protective layer over existing paths. The process is designed to address early signs of wear, including minor cracks and potholes, while preventing water damage and extending the lifespan of footways.

Mark Ieronimo, portfolio holder for transport and infrastructure at Hull City Council said: "This scheme will help to improve the condition and safety of Hull’s footpaths for residents, commuters, and visitors, encouraging active travel options.

"By investing in simple but effective treatments like slurry sealing, we can extend the life of our streets and reduce the need for more disruptive repairs in the future."

Residents in affected areas will receive letter notifications two weeks before work begins on their street, with additional information provided by contractors through leaflet drops.

The programme is funded through the Highways Capital Programme and the Love Your Neighbourhood Project. Areas included in the works span multiple locations across the city, including routes near Pickering Park and key residential streets such as Anlaby Road, Inglemire Lane and Wymersley Road, with a rolling schedule of works planned throughout the four-week period.
