Tameside Council And DfE Back New Hyde Children's Home

A new specialist children's home named Meadow View is to be built in Hyde, providing a supportive place to live for Tameside's children in care.

The purpose-built facility will serve disabled children who require short stay breaks or long-term residential care.

It will replace the current children's home in Dukinfield, offering modern, high-quality accommodation designed around young people’s needs.

The project is being jointly funded by Tameside Council and the Department for Education (DfE).

Construction will be carried out by John Southworth Builders, with Wilkinson Cowan Partnership acting as Contract Administrator.

Work is scheduled to begin towards the end of March 2026, with completion expected by March 2027. The home is planned to open in April 2027 and will provide places for up to nine local children and young people across two units.

As the scheme progresses, the council will work closely with children, young people and families to shape key elements of the internal design.

There will also be opportunities to help bring shared spaces to life, including the creation of accessible planted beds and a sensory garden.

Tameside Council's Executive Member for Children's and Families, Cllr Teresa Smith said: "It's wonderful that we are able to build a brand-new home for our children and young people and take both you and them on this journey with us as it's being built.

"Providing a safe, happy and nurturing place they can call home is so important, and this project shows our continued commitment to putting children and families at the heart of everything we do."
