Amey has won a new contract from Network Rail to provide multi-disciplinary railway consultancy services on the Leeds to Sheffield corridor within the Northern Powerhouse Rail programme.

Awarded via Network Rail's Development and Design Partnership Framework, the work is intended to strengthen links between Sheffield and Leeds by enabling more train services, increasing capacity and delivering faster journey times across key northern routes.

Working closely with Network Rail, Amey will design and develop engineering solutions for this priority corridor. Drawing on its experience in designing, operating and maintaining complex rail networks, the company will produce provisional designs aimed at improving performance, reducing disruption and delivering resilient outcomes for both passengers and freight.

Amey said its systems-thinking approach will underpin end-to-end engineering delivery, with close collaboration across delivery partners to maintain a transparent, value-driven approach. This will be supported by a digital-led use of data and analytics to inform optioneering, including assessments of station dwell times and their effects on wider network performance, particularly at Sheffield station.
