Work Under Way On Stockport Independent Living Hub

Construction work has commenced on Stockport's new Independent Living Hub at Fred Perry House.

The facility is due to open to the public in May.

Designed as a fully furnished, realistic home setting, the hub will allow residents to see and try out equipment, adaptations and technology that can make everyday life easier. It will include a bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, living area and a full staircase to demonstrate mobility solutions.

A dedicated technology enabled care zone will showcase digital tools and devices that support wellbeing and independence.

The project is being delivered in partnership with the Health and Social Care Academy, which will share the space for hands-on training and workforce development. The joint approach brings together health and social care professionals to support residents earlier and more effectively.

Cllr Helen Foster-Grime, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care at Stockport Council, said: "The Independent Living Hub is a fantastic step forward for adults in Stockport. By creating a realistic home environment where people can see and try equipment, adaptations and technology, we're helping residents stay independent, safe and confident in their own homes for longer.

"This pioneering project has been shaped by listening to and working closely with people with lived experience, ensuring it reflects what really matters to those who will use it.

"This is about prevention, dignity and giving people real choice — and I'm proud that Stockport is leading the way."

Construction and fit-out will continue over the coming months, with further updates to be provided as the project progresses.
