£17.6m Police Training Centre Reaches Key Milestone In Staffordshire

A major new police firearms training facility in Staffordshire has reached a significant stage of construction with a topping out ceremony.

The £17.6 million development, being delivered by Morgan Sindall Construction, is being built for Staffordshire Police and is expected to be completed in autumn 2026. The project has been procured through the Constructing West Midlands framework and reflects a long-term investment in public safety across the county.

The new facility replaces outdated buildings that have been demolished and cleared to make way for a modern, purpose-built training environment. Once finished, it will feature a 10-lane, 50-metre indoor live-fire range alongside a dedicated two-storey training hub.

The centre is designed to prepare officers for complex and high-risk scenarios in a secure and controlled setting, strengthening the force’s ability to respond effectively and protect communities across Staffordshire.

Additional works include upgraded site access, landscaping, and the installation of an on-site substation to support efficient operations while maintaining integration with the surrounding area.

The project team includes Blue Sky Architects, Appleyard and Trew, DSSR Consulting Engineers and WML Consulting, with a focus on delivering a safe and durable facility.

Morgan Sindall has also highlighted its commitment to social value throughout the project, working with 11 local supply chain partners and supporting employment and training opportunities for 35 people in the region so far. The company is also supporting Care of Police Survivors, which assists families of police officers and staff who have died in the line of duty.

Richard Fielding, Area Director for Morgan Sindall Construction in the Midlands, said: "Reaching this topping out milestone is a real moment of pride for everyone involved in delivering this new Police Firearms Training Facility. The team has worked in close collaboration with Staffordshire Police to deliver a building that will support Armed Response Officers, and in turn, the Staffordshire community.

"We're immensely proud to be playing our part in creating a high-quality, safety-focused facility and very much look forward to completing the project later this year."
