Ealing Council has appointed Countryside Properties UK Ltd, part of Vistry Group, as its preferred development partner for the residential phase of the Gurnell Leisure Centre redevelopment in Greenford, west London.
The wider scheme will see the replacement of the existing 1970s leisure centre with a new facility, alongside the delivery of more than 300 affordable homes. Detailed planning consent has already been secured for the leisure centre and park landscape, with outline permission in place for the residential element.
The 13.2-hectare site includes brownfield land and open space near Ruislip Road East and Argyle Road. Located within the London Borough of Ealing, the area benefits from strong transport links, including proximity to Heathrow Airport and the Elizabeth line, with future connectivity set to improve further through HS2.
The redevelopment will form part of the council's wider vision for a new regional park spanning Ealing and neighbouring London Borough of Hounslow, linking green spaces and providing enhanced recreational access. The Gurnell site is expected to sit at the heart of this initiative.
Countryside Properties UK plans to submit a Reserved Matters planning application for the housing phase later this year. HTA Design LLP has been appointed as architect, with Sphere25 acting as planning consultant.
Nick Churcher, Managing Director for Vistry West London, said: "This is a fantastic appointment providing the opportunity to deliver much-needed high-quality affordable housing at scale in collaboration with our long-term partner Ealing Council. We are very pleased to be part of this ambitious redevelopment that will have a transformational impact on the wider community."
