Work Under Way On 10 New Social Rent Homes In Northfield

Construction is under way on a development of 10 affordable homes on Trescott Road, Northfield, aimed at supporting Birmingham families struggling amid the housing crisis.

Birmingham City Council has struck an agreement with TR Partnership Homes to build the properties for Midland Heart, which will own and manage them. All the homes in the scheme will be affordable and available for social rent.

The council agreed the project with TR Partnership Homes and Midland Heart in September 2025, with families expected to move in around June 2026. The initiative is one of several partnerships being used to speed up the delivery of affordable housing across the city.

Work has already begun on four sites being delivered with a developer and a housing association, set to provide 383 affordable homes. A fifth site on Boleyn Road is due to start at the end of March, adding another 70 homes and bringing the total to 453.

Cllr Nicky Brennan, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, said: "In the last year alone, the council has delivered 1,000 affordable homes.

"We are looking to accelerate that delivery by partnering with developers and housing associations to turn unused patches of land into more affordable homes.

"Trescott Road is an excellent example of how quickly homes can be delivered working in this way, and I am delighted that 100% of the homes on this development will be affordable.

"I would urge more partners to work with us so together we can rapidly increase the number of affordable, warm, safe, and energy-efficient homes available for Birmingham residents."

Steve Thompson, Managing Director at TR Partnerships Homes, said: "We are proud to be working in partnership with Birmingham City Council and Midland Heart to deliver these much-needed affordable homes on Trescott Road.

"Developments like this demonstrate what can be achieved when organisations work together with a shared commitment to addressing the housing crisis.

"We look forward to seeing these high-quality homes completed and welcoming families to a safe, secure place they can call home in June."
