Plans Submitted For Hawthorn Drive Shopping Parade Upgrade

A planning application has been submitted to upgrade the Hawthorn Drive Shopping Parade in Ipswich.

Led by Ipswich Borough Council, the proposal aims to enhance the public realm and improve accessibility at the parade, a key amenity for local residents.

Plans include extending the existing car park and laying new paving to make it easier to reach the shops, some of which currently have steps or individual ramps. The scheme would create a refreshed square in front of the units with high-quality timber seating, and introduce new three-to-four-metre trees in purpose-built pits to support long-term growth.

Backed by the Government Local Regeneration Fund (formerly the Towns Fund), the project intends to revitalise the area through considered public realm improvements.

Councillor Neil MacDonald, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: "This work will ensure local residents, who rely on this shopping parade, benefit from improved accessibility, more parking and a greener, more attractive area to visit.

"The simple, attractive design delivers a better environment and is built to last."

Jack Abbott, MP, said: "I'm really pleased we are using government investment to improve everyday spaces in our communities, and these plans for Hawthorn Drive Shopping Parade will make a positive difference for the people who rely on it.

"The improvements will create a more accessible and welcoming space, with better paving, additional parking and new trees and seating that will brighten the area for shoppers and local businesses alike."
