Hounslow Council Launches Golden Mile London Regeneration Programme

Hounslow Council has officially launched the Golden Mile London, a major 15-year regeneration programme set to transform the Great West Road corridor in West London.

The collaborative initiative will bring together the Council, investors, developers, businesses and anchor institutions to deliver up to 14,000 homes, 25,000 jobs and £7.5bn of investment along the Great West Road.

Building on the Golden Mile's historic role as one of West London’s most important economic corridors, the programme marks the beginning of an ambitious new chapter for the area, positioning it as a leading Creative-Tech Innovation District for London.

The vision was first unveiled at a London launch event held at the Gtech Community Stadium in Brentford. Senior representatives from the Greater London Authority, Transport for London, investors, developers and members of the Golden Mile Business and Developer Forum attended the event to introduce the Golden Mile London Vision and Investment Framework.

The Vision and Framework set out a coordinated plan for long-term growth, bringing together public and private sector partners behind a shared ambition to transform the area while delivering inclusive, sustainable benefits for local communities.

Stretching four kilometres between Heathrow and Central London, the Golden Mile has long played a defining role in Hounslow’s economy. Known for its Art Deco landmarks and industrial heritage along the Great West Road, the area is now entering a new phase of growth and opportunity.

With exceptional connectivity, including the A4/M4 corridor, Heathrow Airport, the Elizabeth Line and proposed projects such as the West London Orbital, the area is seen as well placed to attract both national and international investment.

Hounslow Council has committed £1.15 million to the Golden Mile London programme and early priority projects, including the Golden Mile Innovation Hub, greener streets and improvements to the A4, in an effort to kickstart delivery.

Momentum is already building along the corridor. Hounslow Council's Planning Committee recently approved plans to transform the former GSK headquarters site at 980 Great West Road. The scheme, brought forward by Hadley Property Group, will create a major mixed-use neighbourhood featuring around 2,300 homes and 320,000 sq ft of commercial and community space.

Alongside this, the Council and the University of West London (UWL) are working with Hadley Property Group on proposals for a Golden Mile Skills and Innovation Hub.

The flagship project aims to support residents in gaining new skills while helping start-ups and scale-up businesses grow across the creative, digital and technology sectors, connecting businesses with UWL’s research, talent and skills.

The programme is expected to deliver up to 14,000 new homes and 25,000 new jobs, as well as new workspace for creative, digital and technology industries. Plans also include greener streets and improved public spaces, including the emerging West London Regional Park, enhanced transport connections and active travel routes, and new cultural, education and community facilities.

With an estimated £7.5 billion gross development value, Golden Mile London represents one of London’s most significant long-term mixed-use investment opportunities across residential living, workspace, education and skills, leisure and culture.

Following its London launch, Golden Mile London is also being showcased at MIPIM, the world's leading property and real estate conference in Cannes, placing Hounslow’s plans for the area on the global stage.
