Morgan Sindall Construction's Northern Home Counties business has started work on a £13 million extension to The Kingsbrook School in Aylesbury.

The project follows the contractor's successful completion of the original secondary school building in 2022 and was procured via the SCF framework for Buckinghamshire Council.

The expansion involves the construction of a 2,300 square metre, three-storey building designed to increase the school's capacity from six to eight forms of entry. This will add 360 student places to the current capacity of 1,080, which includes the sixth form. The development is a direct response to the increased requirement for school places generated by the new Kingsbrook housing development.

The new facilities will include 20 classrooms, science laboratories, food preparation rooms, and dedicated study and social spaces for the Sixth Form. Additionally, the existing Special Educational Needs (SEN) area will be enlarged. The extension is being built using a traditional steel frame with precast floors to ensure a high-quality finish and a more efficient installation process.

To maintain safety and minimise impact on the live school environment, the site was established during the October half term. A dedicated tunnel has been installed within the construction zone to allow students uninterrupted access to sports facilities. The project also prioritises sustainability, featuring photovoltaic panels and air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, meaning gas will only be supplied to the science labs.
