Leeds-headquartered G&H is calling for the next generation of skilled workers to apply for its 2026 apprenticeship scheme, highlighting the roles as a way to secure a career resilient to the rise of automation and AI.
The mechanical, electrical, and public health services provider launched the recruitment drive during National Careers Week. Based at the company's head office, the available positions include Building Services Engineering Technician, Electrical, and Building Services Craftsperson apprenticeships.
The programme is highly regarded, boasting a success rate where more than 96 per cent of G&H apprentices complete their training. The company places a heavy emphasis on professional development, ensuring that those who join the scheme have a clear path for career progression.
Paul Churchill, Development Manager at G&H, said: "From day one, apprentices join G&H as full-time employees. They are mentored by experienced colleagues, gain hands-on experience and, if based on site, are exposed to a wide variety of tasks across live projects.
"On completion of their apprenticeship, individuals are supported with a clear professional development plan and genuine opportunities to progress. Our apprenticeship programme is designed to identify and develop future talent, ensuring our workforce is skilled, adaptable and ready for the future.
"Over 96 per cent of G&H apprentices successfully complete their programmes. This is testament to our supportive culture and ongoing investment in development. A recent example is our dedicated training facility, which gives apprentices the time and space to build practical skills and confidence before working on live sites. This ensures they meet both industry regulations and G&H's own high standards.
"When interviewing potential apprentices, we look for curiosity, a positive attitude and a genuine willingness to learn. Skills can be taught, enthusiasm, reliability and commitment are what really make the difference. If you're a school or college student interested in the construction sector and want to join an organisation that nurtures the next generation of leaders, I would encourage you to apply."
Current Project Engineer Apprentice, Amelia Armitage, joined the firm in August 2025. She said: "I was aware of G&H before applying for the apprenticeship as I live locally and I'd heard so many positive comments about the company.
"I joined in August 2025 and I've been involved in a mix of in-person and online training, attending meetings, visiting sites and learning directly from colleagues about different parts of the job process. I've really enjoyed gaining hands-on experience alongside my studies within a supportive organisation.
"Six months into the role, I still feel incredibly fortunate to work in an exciting, fast-paced industry. I'd encourage anyone with a passion for starting a career in construction to check out the G&H 2026 apprenticeship opportunities."
Those starting in August 2026 will be taken on as full-time employees, receiving a competitive salary and mentorship while working towards academic qualifications. G&H welcomes applications from school and college leavers with BTECs, A-Levels, or equivalent qualifications.
The schemes are run in conjunction with Bradford College and Leeds College of Building, resulting in industry-recognised City & Guilds qualifications. G&H has a long history of vocational training, having delivered apprenticeships since 1999, with several former trainees now holding senior positions within the organisation.
The deadline for applications is midnight on 30 April 2026. CVs should be sent to [email protected]. For further information, visit: wearegandh.com/vacancies/
