Kier Appointed to Hospital 2.0 Alliance Framework for New Hospital Programme

Kier has secured a position on the Hospital 2.0 Alliance Framework, a central component of the government's New Hospital Programme (NHP).

Representing the largest single investment in NHS infrastructure in recent decades, the programme is a joint initiative between the Department of Health and Social Care and NHS England aimed at standardising the design and construction of modern healthcare facilities.

As one of 10 alliance partners, Kier has been selected to deliver the 11 NHP Wave 1 schemes, with construction scheduled to take place between 2027 and 2030. The appointment follows Kier's successful delivery of several high-profile healthcare projects, including new clinical buildings at Luton & Dunstable University Hospital, the Dyson Cancer Centre, and Heatherwood Hospital.

In preparation for the rollout, Kier has established a dedicated NHP leadership team, including the recent appointments of Rebecca Garcia as Alliance Director and Bonnie Chu as Alliance Design Director. The firm will leverage its national scale and regional delivery model to provide not only healthcare infrastructure but also local training and employment opportunities.

Martin Staehr, Group Managing Director at Kier Construction, said: "We're extremely proud to be continuing our collaboration on the new Hospital 2.0 Alliance. At Kier we are passionate about producing the highest-quality facilities to enable hardworking NHS teams to deliver the best possible patient care. The new Hospital 2.0 approach will help us to do just that, and we look forward to working in alliance with our partners to share best practice and innovation."

Minister of State for Health, Karin Smyth, added: "By backing a standardised approach to hospital building, we are giving the construction sector the certainty it needs to invest in skills, capacity and innovation. This is about partnering with industry to deliver better hospitals faster, while driving productivity and value for the NHS."

Natalie Forrest, Chief Programme Officer at the New Hospital Programme, described the alliance as a "defining moment" for healthcare construction. She noted that the model creates the conditions for faster delivery and consistent quality at scale by bringing together the DHSC, NHS England, and industry partners under a collaborative framework.

Kier remains a major player in the sector, having completed 32 NHS projects totalling over £500m since January 2024. Across its history, the group has delivered more than 200 healthcare projects and 100 clinical services across England, Scotland, and Wales.
