Construction materials supplier Breedon Group plc has announced the completion of an £870,000 investment programme at its Cloud Hill quarry asphalt plant.
The project focused on modernising the facility to improve operational resilience, energy performance, and material grading precision.
Cloud Hill is a significant site within the Breedon network, producing over 350,000 tonnes of asphalt annually. The recent upgrades involved a substantial reconstruction of the plant, including the replacement of hot bins and the screen, alongside a reduction in the total number of motors on-site. These changes are designed to provide better temperature control and more reliable production for customers.
The works were completed two weeks ahead of schedule through a collaboration between Breedon's internal teams and specialist contractors. By finishing the project early, the group ensured minimal disruption to the supply of materials for regional infrastructure projects.
The modernisation is also expected to lower the site's energy consumption, supporting Breedon's broader commitment to reducing its carbon footprint. The improved plant configuration will offer customers greater consistency in material quality and more efficient turnaround times.
Matthew Gelsthorpe, Operations Manager Aggregates & Asphalt, said: "Cloud Hill is an important site for Breedon, and this investment will deliver tangible operational and customer benefits. By modernising the plant and reducing the number of motors in use, we've improved efficiency on site while also lowering energy consumption, which is a critical challenge for our industry.
"The upgrade further strengthens our ability to deliver high-quality asphalt reliably, on time and when our customers need it. These are the kinds of practical steps that will help us reduce our carbon footprint while continuing to support essential infrastructure projects."
