Uttlesford Planning Team Shortlisted For National LGC Award

Uttlesford District Council has announced that its Planning Team has been named as a finalist for a prestigious national accolade at the Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards 2026.

The LGC Awards are among the most respected in the local government sector, designed to celebrate innovation, quality, and dedication. This year's competition saw more than 1,000 nominations from local authorities across the country. Uttlesford's Planning Team has been shortlisted in the 'Large Team of the Year' category, specifically for its successful and wide-reaching transformation programme.

Over recent years, the department has achieved a significant shift in its operational performance. Previously designated by the government, the team has successfully transitioned into a high-performing planning service across both appeals and applications.

Furthermore, the team has made substantial progress on the district's Local Plan. After previously being at risk of government intervention due to the lack of an up-to-date plan, Uttlesford has developed a draft Local Plan that prioritises environmental standards and climate change action. This plan is now considered a benchmark for sustainable development, with the team sharing its best practices and expertise with other councils throughout the UK.

Cllr John Evans, Portfolio Holder for Planning, commented: "This shortlisting is a testament to the hard work, professionalism and dedication of our Planning Team. Their commitment to improving performance, strengthening community confidence and raising environmental ambition has been outstanding. We are proud to see their achievements recognised on a national stage."

The final judging for the LGC Awards is scheduled to take place in April. The winners will be officially announced during a ceremony on 10 June.
