United Infrastructure Appointed to Landmark Bromley-By-Bow Gasworks Project

United Infrastructure, a prominent provider of solutions for the UK's critical networks, has been awarded a contract by Cadent Gas to lead a significant redevelopment at the historic Bromley-By-Bow Gasworks in London.

The site is notable for housing the largest collection of Grade II listed gasholders in the UK. The project is a vital element of the overarching Bromley-By-Bow masterplan, which seeks to protect the site's industrial heritage while creating new housing, environmental enhancements, and public spaces.

The 15-month programme commenced in late November 2025. Initial stages have involved site establishment, vegetation clearance, and the setup of CDM-compliant welfare facilities. Following the isolation of the site from the broader gas network, United Infrastructure will manage the demolition of redundant structures and the rationalisation of pipework to ready the land for future use.

The contract includes a comprehensive rebuild of the gas facility on a smaller footprint on adjacent land. United Infrastructure is responsible for all mechanical, electrical, and civil installations. This modernised infrastructure is designed to provide quieter pipework and improved operational efficiency, alongside a more sustainable and visually appealing presence for the local community.

The streamlining of the existing gas infrastructure serves as a crucial enabling step for the wider masterplan. This development is set to provide over 2,150 new homes across 13 residential buildings, with several integrated into the restored gasholder frames. Upon completion, the location will feature a parkland setting with biodiverse habitats and wildflowers for the benefit of residents and wildlife.

This appointment reinforces the long-term partnership between United Infrastructure and Cadent, highlighting the company's role as a key delivery partner for major UK infrastructure owners.

Conor Bray, Managing Director, Energy at United Infrastructure, stated: "We are delighted to have been appointed on this project, which reflects the continued trust Cadent places in United Infrastructure and our teams. Bromley-By-Bow is a complex and historically important site, and we are proud to be supporting its transformation. By working closely with Cadent, we are helping to modernise critical infrastructure while enabling the delivery of new homes and high-quality public spaces for the local community."
