Work Commences On £1.8m Expansion At Pearl Hyde Primary School

Construction has officially begun on a new £1.8 million education project at Pearl Hyde Primary School in Coventry. A sod-cutting ceremony was held this month on the Dorchester Way site to celebrate the milestone, bringing together representatives from G F Tomlinson, Coventry City Council, and the Constructing West Midlands (CWM) Framework.

The scheme involves the construction of a brand-new Early Years block featuring modern learning and play environments, a dedicated outdoor area, and two new offices. Furthermore, the school's existing reception classroom is being repurposed into a specialist SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) provision space, complete with an integrated sensory room to better accommodate pupils with diverse requirements.

The project is the first to be awarded to G F Tomlinson by Coventry City Council through the CWM Framework—a public sector procurement collaboration overseen by Acivico Ltd. In line with the framework's goals, the contractor has committed to supporting the local economy by creating employment opportunities within the region and reducing carbon emissions through localised supply chains.

Andy Sewards, Chairman at G F Tomlinson, said: "We are delighted to be on site at Pearl Hyde Primary School and to have marked the start of works with our sod-cutting ceremony alongside Coventry City Council and representatives of Constructing West Midlands, the school and wider project team. This project is particularly significant for us as it is our first appointment with Coventry City Council through the Constructing West Midlands Framework, and we are proud to be working in partnership to deliver modern, high-quality facilities that will support teaching and learning in the region, for years to come."

Councillor Beatrice Christopher, Deputy Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, added: "It is a pleasure to mark the start of work at Pearl Hyde Primary School. This building work will ensure that local children have the space and facilities to thrive at school and it is especially wonderful to see more SEND provision included as part of the plans. I look forward to seeing the finished works later this year!"

Lara Sofoluwe, Associate Director at cost consultants Pick Everard, noted the importance of the new facilities in creating an inclusive environment closer to home for families. The project is currently on track for completion in August.
